Los Angeles, California is an especially beautiful city to live in and there are several excellent universities in the area with different specialties. California has a highly reputable public university system with affordable rates both for in-state and out-of-state students.

California State University, Los Angeles

According to US News and World Report, there is an undergraduate student body of roughly 16,000 and yearly tuition and fees for the 2010-2011 school year was $4,701 for in-state and $15,861 for out-of-state students. Cal State L.A. is classified as a Division II university, meaning it has least 10 sports teams that are either equally divided among men and women or are divided as four for men and six for women. Division II schools must also participate in all sport seasons, except summer. The university's most popular majors in 2009 were business, management, marketing and related support services. Its campus is located in the Monterey Park area of northeast Los Angeles.

University of California, Los Angeles

US News and World Report writes that UCLA has an undergraduate student body of over 26,687 as of the 2010-2011 school year. The tuition and fees per year are $10,781 for in-state and $33,660 for out-of-state students. This Division 1 school also has a history of an excellent athletic program for men's and women's polo teams. UCLA is part of the PAC-10, which is a loose affiliation of schools on the west coast or Pacific Conference who compete in the NCAA Division 1 sports events. The university's football team also plays all of its home games at the famous Rose Bowl Arena in Pasadena, California.

University of Southern California

USC has a very active Greek community with almost 80% of all undergraduate students belonging to a fraternity or sorority. The annual tuition and fees for the 2010-2011 school year were listed as $41,022 and a student gender ratio of 1:1 men vs. women. The school's Division I sports team, The Trojans, won the 2009 Emerald Bowl in football and has an impressive history of creating winning teams.

Loyola Marymount University

This private Catholic university was founded in the Jesuit tradition in 1911 and in 2010 had an undergraduate student body of 5,833, making it the largest Catholic university in the United States. There are also graduate programs in the fields of Business Administration, Law and Education available. The 2010-2011 tuition and fees were $36,404 and according to a ranking from US News and World Report, the university was #3 in the "Best Colleges of Regional Universities (West)" for 2011.
