The Ivy League, formed in 1902, comprises eight colleges and universities: Dartmouth, Brown, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Pennsylvania and Cornell. All of the schools have large endowments, celebrated faculties and high standards. Ivy League schools have produced many internationally known artists as well as leaders in fields such as business, science and government. The last three U.S. presidents were educated at Ivy League schools at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Yale University

Located in New Haven, Yale University’s School of Art is consistently named the top art school in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The faculty includes Deborah Kass, Christopher Martin and Catherine Murphy. The program has produced artists such as Meredith Miller, Yoon Seok Yoo and Emily Lessard. The M.F.A. program has about 100 students, and the B.A. program has about 200 students.

Columbia University

Columbia University has an elite studio art program, combining a location in New York City with academic resources, including the offering of B.A. and M.F.A. degrees. The B.A. program has about 200 students, and the M.F.A. program has about 50 students. Current faculty includes the painter Gregory Amenoff, the installation artist Susan Sze and the painter Kara Walker. David Altmejd and Laurie Anderson are famous alumni of the program.

Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College’s Studio Art Department offers B.A. degrees and regularly holds exhibitions for its student-artists. Faculty includes Jack Wilson, Esme Thompson, Soo Sunny Park, Virginia Beahan and John Kemp Lee. Among alumni of the program are Daniel Dalseth, Peter Garfield and Carl Reed. Each year, about 150 students are at various stages in the program.The department also manages the Hood Museum of Art and the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
