How to Block Numbers on Magic Jack

MagicJack is a phone device installed on the computer through a USB device featuring a phone jack. The device has gained popularity in recent years due to its low cost and superior quality of calls compared to other services. MagicJack sells for about $40 for the initial payment, with a $20 annual charge for subscription renewal as of September 2010. The device itself currently does not have a service available to block numbers, but other programs can be used with it to allow a user to block certain numbers.

Download Magicfeatures 2.0. This program will let you block specific numbers by entering them in the Control Panel of the program. Download the program by clicking on the Download icon on the top of the PCPhoneSoft website (see References). Now click the "Download Now" button under "Magicfeatures Plugin." Save the file. The program should automatically install once downloaded. Once installed, access the Magicfeatures program by clicking on the "Start" button and then click on "Programs" to find it listed.

Use MagicJackBeans on your computer, which is another program to add features to your MagicJack phone. Go to the MagicJackBeans website and click on the bean under "Buy the Bean" (see References). Click "Save" when the install window appears. Install the program after it downloads. Run MagicJackBeans to block numbers of your choice, according to the instructions provided with the software.

Use PhoneTray Dialup 2.37. Download the program by clicking on the "Download Now" button on its website, and then choose "Direct Download" (see References). Click "Save," and then select the location where you want to download the installer. Once downloaded, click the PhoneTray setup wizard by navigating to it from "Start" and then "Programs." The wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation once you click "Run." You will have to restart your computer and enter the modem settings, and then you can start using PhoneTray to block phone numbers.

Create an account with Google to use its Google Voice service (see References). Once your account is created, choose "Get new Google number" to synchronize all your numbers with one Google number. Choose from the different numbers provided by Google. Add your MagicJack number to the Google Voice interface. Whenever you want to block a number, click "More" located under the number of the caller, and then click "Block caller." The caller will be blocked, and they will now receive a message when trying to call you that states, "We're sorry, you have reached a number that has been disconnected or no longer in service."
