The doctor of nursing practice (DNP) allows nurses to attain, and better equip themselves with the expertise, specialized skills and scientific knowledge, necessary for health care professionals. Federal scholarship funding is available to assist graduate nursing students. Research proves a definitive link between higher levels of nursing education and improved patient outcomes.

Federal Scholarship Funding

DNP applicants can avail themselves of Advanced Nursing Education Expansion (ANEE) Act funds to finance their educational studies. The purpose of ANEE funding is to increase the enrollment numbers of eligible students pursuing full-time studies in a primary care nurse practitioner program and/or a nurse-midwifery master‘s, post-master‘s program or a DNP program.

Institutional Applicants

Eligible applicants for ANEE funding are not individuals, but are nationally accredited educational institutions. The eligible institutions include college schools of nursing or, “other private or public entities accredited by a national nursing accrediting agency and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education,” according to the Federal Grants Wire.

Student Eligibility

To be considered an eligible student for ANEE funding you must be either a full-time student or a part-time student in the process of converting to full-time studies. A DNP student must be a U.S. citizen or, “a non-citizen national, or foreign national who possesses a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States,” notes the HRSA – Advanced Education Nursing Program.
