Etiquette on Finger Sandwiches

by Sara Schmidt, Demand Media Google

Finger sandwiches make flavorful hors d'oeuvres at any gathering. Such sandwiches enhance brunch menus and serve as the main nibble for afternoon tea fare. Finger sandwiches also work well as snacks. When eating these dainty treats, it's important to maintain good etiquette to avoid offending a hostess. Small bites are always encouraged.

    Eat in Moderation

Given the dainty nature of finger sandwiches, eating them in large quantities is considered poor etiquette. An appropriate serving is around four to six sandwiches.

    Eating Sandwiches

Even though they're small, finger sandwiches aren't meant to be eaten in a single bite. The sandwiches should be eaten gently, in small bites. Finger sandwiches also should not be cut prior to eating unless knives are present at the table setting. This etiquette point usually applies to open-faced finger sandwiches.
