An Easy Way to Remember the Continents

Learning the continents doesn't have to be difficult.

Earth consists of seven continents. Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America and Europe are the seven continents. Growing up, you were taught the continents in school and you may have children that need to learn the continents as well. Some people use songs to remember the continents, while others use different methods. One of the easiest methods to learning the continents involves remembering the first letter of each continent.

Learn the continents by remembering the first letter of each. Of the seven continents six start with the letter “A.” Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Africa, and the Americas (North and South) are the six continents that begin with the letter “A.”

Know that two of the continents that begin with the letter “A” are the two Americas, North and South.

Learn that the seventh continent is the only one that does not begin with the letter “A” but with the letter “E” instead; that continent is Europe. Remembering that all seven continents begin with a vowel is one way to keep them fresh in your mind.

  • Another easy way to remember the continents using the first letter of each is to use mnemonics, which is the concept of making up a phrase or saying using the first letters of the words you need to remember. For example; Eat an apricot as a nice snack.
  • E for Europe
  • A for Antarctica
  • A for Asia
  • A for Africa
  • N for North America
  • S for South America
