Display tags in your Tumblr sidebar to help categorize your posts and enable readers to zero in on topics that interest them. Probably the easiest way to add tag link is to embed a tag cloud generator that displays all your tags and ranks them based on the frequency of use. You can choose between two free generators that work with Tumblr tags. If you prefer to display only certain tags, you can add them to your sidebar one by one using Tumblr's Add a Page feature.

Create Tag Cloud Widget

Step 1

Navigate to the Tumblr Tag Clouds page (link in Resources).

Step 2

Enter your blog's URL in the Tumblr URL field, and then click the "Refresh" button to see a preview of how your tag cloud will look in your sidebar. Tags you use more frequently will appear larger than other tags.

Step 3

Modify any options you want to change, such as the minimum and maximum tag sizes, or the maximum number of tags, and then click the "Refresh" button again.

Step 4

Copy the block of code displayed on the page after you finish making adjustments

Step 5

Navigate to your Tumblr dashboard and click "Customize."

Step 6

Paste the block of code into the Description box and the place where you want to tag cloud to appear. Click "Save" and then "Exit" to return to your dashboard.

Pretty Tag Cloud Maker Widget

Step 1

Navigate to the Pretty Tag Cloud Maker website (link in Resources).

Step 2

Enter your Tumblr username in the "Tumblr" field and click "Load Tags" to see a preview of how the cloud will look with your tags.

Step 3

Change any of the options, such as the text size, colors or the size of the cloud, and then click "Load Tags" again to update the preview.

Step 4

Click "Save Cloud" when finish making adjustments, and then copy the block of code on the screen.

Step 5

Navigate to your Tumblr dashboard and click "Customize."

Step 6

Paste the block of code into the Description box where you want the tag cloud to appear. Click "Save" and "Exit" to return to your dashboard.

Create Individual Tag Links

Step 1

Go to your Tumblr dashboard and click "Customize."

Step 2

Click "Add a Page" at the bottom of the Customize pane.

Step 3

Add the name of the tag you want to feature at the end of the URL in the "Add a Page" window. For example, if you want to display a link to a page that shows all your posts tagged with #music, change the URL to "yourname.tumblr.com/music."

Step 4

Enter the tag in the "Page Title" field, and then enter any text you want to include on the tag category page.

Step 5

Toggle the switch at the top of the "Add a Page" window so that the tag appears as a link in your sidebar.

Step 6

Click "Save," and then click the back arrow to return to the Customize screen. Add more pages for any other tag links you want to add to the sidebar.
