Wearing all black is more than just easy dressing -- it’s the chance to take advantage of a neutral backdrop, opening the door to all sorts of creative add-ons. Whether you’re rocking an LBD or a black pant suit, you’ll have your pick of footwear from understated to bold.

1 Less Is More

If your black ensemble has a mix of fabrics, multiple layers or other intricate detailing, it may be best to keep your footwear neutral -- black, nude, beige or brushed metallics are perfect pairings. For example, try pairing black leather pants and a black mohair sweater with nude suede ankle booties.

2 Bold and Beautiful

An all-black ensemble also holds up beautifully against a bright pop of color. Pull out your favorite colored stilettos -- think crimson, fuchsia and cobalt – or take a walk on the wild side and rock a pair of animal-print shoes. For instance, pair black skinny jeans and a black graphic tee with cheetah-print ballet flats for a casual dinner out. Brightly colored shoes also work for more dressed-up fare; Slip into red mary janes to add an unexpected finish to black trousers and a black button-down.
