How to Check Social Security Online

Whether you already receive Social Security benefits or wish to receive a Social Security statement, you can check your Social Security information through the official Social Security Online government site. This site also allows you to calculate how much you'll receive by the time you retire, order a replacement Medicare card, and apply for social security benefits directly through the site. The Social Security Online site also allows you to block anyone from accessing your personal information.

Check Your Social Security Application Status

Open your Internet browser, and click the URL field at the top of the browser window. Enter to Social Security Online website's URL and press the "Enter" or "Return" key on your keyboard.

Select the "Check the Status of your Application" link under the "What You Can Do" section located on the left side of the browser window.

Enter your social security number in the blank field, and enter the confirmation number located in the confirmation email you received from the Social Security Administration. Click "Next" to view the your application's status.

Request Social Security Statement

Open your Internet browser and go to the Social Security Online site. Click the "Your Social Security Earnings Statement" link underneath the "What You Can Do" section in the browser window.

Click the "Need to Request a Statement?" button in the browser window, and scroll down to the bottom of the following page.

Click the "Request a Social Security Statement" button at the bottom of the window, and enter your social security number in the appropriate field. Enter your first name, middle initial and last name, and enter your date of birth from the drop-down menu.

Select your place of birth from the drop-down menu, select your gender and enter your mother's maiden name. Enter your mailing address and your phone number, and click the "Continue" button.

Click the "Done" button to complete the statement request and exit the Internet browser.
