The Graduate Record Exam or GRE is a standardized test created and administered by Educational Testing Services. The test is an admissions requirement for many graduate programs in the U.S. If you need to change your test date due to illness or any other reason, ETS makes it very easy for you to do.

Paper-based GRE test

Step 1

Compile all information needed to process a paper-based date change: name, date of birth, address, registration number, test date, preferred test center and new test date.

Step 2

Dial 1-866-473-4373 to cancel by phone. Request to speak to a customer service representative and provide the necessary information over the phone to reschedule the new test date.

Step 3

Mail a signed letter including all of the information from Step 1 to ETS to reschedule by mail rather than phone. Include a statement requesting to reschedule your test and send to:

Computer-based Test

Step 1

Log in to your existing GRE account at https://mygre.ets.org/greweb/login/login.jsp.

Step 2

Select "Change GRE test date" and proceed as directed by the ETS website. Select your new date and complete registration.

Step 3

Reschedule by phone if you prefer. Dial Prometic Services at 1-443-751-4820 or 1-800-473-2255. Provide a customer service representative with your name and confirmation process. Request a date change and remain on the phone until the representative completes the process.
