Though the traditional test taker is a high school student, high school graduates may also take the SAT. The SAT is a standardized test used to determine your readiness for college, and it tests three areas -- writing, reading and math. According to the SAT website, you should complete the test as early as possible before applying to college to ensure that your scores are received on time.

SAT Registration

High school graduates register for the test through the SAT website. Test centers are available in all 50 states, U.S. territories and several other countries. As recommend by the College Board, you should check test center availability when registering. The SAT is offered on five dates each year, but not all test centers are open on each date.

Test Day Requirements

On the day of the test, you must have your SAT admission ticket to enter the test center, and you will need to print it from the website before leaving home. You also need an acceptable photo ID to gain entry. If you are 21 or older, you are allowed to use only a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license or a passport, as your photo ID.
