Job Corps is a program set up by the United States government to help young people who didn't graduate from high school learn a career while they earn their high school diplomas or General Equivalency Diploma. While there is no way to apply for Job Corps online, it is still a fairly easy process that involves meeting with a recruiter and filling out forms that detail your income and education level. The program is free if you're accepted and includes housing, meals, health care and a living allowance.
Make sure that you meet the basic requirements for Job Corp before you apply. They require that you be between 16 and 24, that you have a low income, that you are not in jail or on probation, that you need additional education and training to be successful, and that you're free of any major behavior or health problems.
Call 800-733-5627 and provide the operator with information about where you live. He'll refer you to a local admissions counselor. Give the operator your address and he will mail you an admissions package.
Set up a meeting with your local recruiter and show up with your résumé. Discuss what you hope to get out of Job Corp and why you think you're a good candidate.
Fill out the application and submit it as soon as possible. You'll have to include your personal information, like your address, Social Security Number and driver's license number, as well as information about your employment and income.
List the name, address, telephone and relationship to you of four people who you would want contacted if there was an emergency. This is required with your application form. Be sure to ask the people you list before you give out their information.
Answer the essay questions at the end of the application, explaining why you'd be a good fit for Job Corp, why you didn't complete school and what trade you're interested in.
Mail your application package to the address on the form. It will vary depending on the state you live in.
