You can answer some Tumblr blog posts with a GIF or another image type. If the post displays a camera icon between the reblog icon and the heart icon under the post content, you can “photo reply” to the post with an image. The post creator must enable the “Let People Photo Reply” feature when creating the post for the Photo Reply feature to be available. If the Photo Reply feature is not available for the post, your only other option is to reblog the post and include the GIF in the reblogged entry.

Photo Reply

Click the camera icon in a post enabled for photo replies to open the Photo Reply form.

Click the center of the form to open the file browser. Navigate to the GIF file, then click "Open" to upload the image. You can also drag and drop the GIF file into the center of the form to upload the image.

Type an optional caption in the Caption box, then type up to five identifying tags in the Tags field, if desired.

Click the “Post” icon to publish the reply.

Reblog Post

Hover over the icons under the post content to view the icon names, then click the reblog icon (represented by two arrows forming a rectangular shape) to open the reblog form. The original post is referenced by a link. You can change the setting to include the content of the original post. Click the arrow in the top right corner of the reblog form, then click “Text” to include the text content of the original post, or click “Quote” to quote the original post.

Click the camera icon in the reblog form to open the file selector. Browse to and click on the GIF image, then click “Open” to upload the image. You can also drag and drop the GIF into the center of the form to automatically upload the image.

Type your answer to the original post in the blank section below the original post.

Click “Reblog Post” to publish the reblogged post.

Tips

To enable photo replies for one of your own posts, click the gear icon in the New Post form, then click the “Let People Photo Reply” check box.
